This week: Martin Ikin

Dj/Producer since 1991, Martin Ikin aka: Soul Purpose, Indigo, MIGrant, DJ Mayhem, etc etc... Too many Aliases to mention…

As a musician and producer Martin draws his musical influences from the likes of Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Oscar Peterson, Azymuth, Donny Hathaway, Jeff Lorber, Roy Ayers and legendary house masters like Mr Fingers, Marshall Jefferson, Derek May & Kevin Saunderson.

We’ve asked Martin Ikin our five favourite questions:

What is your latest release and what is the thought behind it?
It's a remix of the Basement Jaxx classic “where’s Your Head At”
When the boys got in touch and asked me to remix this for them, my head nearly fell off. I’ve always loved this record for its uniqueness, so I wanted to bring something new to it and not just make a re-hash of the original parts. I had fun using all my hardware synths to create the new sounds on this one.

Will there be a new collaboration with another DJ coming soon?
Yes there will, there will actually be more than one. But that’s all I can give away for now ;)
Is there any other DJ with whom you like to work on a track with and what is the reason behind it?
Yeah Chris Lake & Chris Lorenzo, both of these guys are at the top of their game.

What are your special qualities as a DJ?
I don’t know if you could call it special, but I always put a lot of thought and time into my selections, I won’t just play something cos its new or big for example, it has to flow and fit with everything else I want to play.

The theme of Sensation this year is YES. to all. What does this theme means to you?
To me that means everyone is welcome, inclusive, come and hang out and party with us and feel at home!

We can’t wait to reunite on the dancefloor again. See you on the 2nd.
